Webroot is a private computer software-based company based in America. The founders of Webroot are Steven Thomas and his girlfriend, Boulderite Kristen Tally. Plus, In July 1997, they released their first commercial Webroot product. Its name was Webroot Window Washer, which was helpful in removing unnecessary traces from the computer device. 

Additionally, the headquarter of Webroot is situated in Broomfield, Colorado, United States (US). And it has the international headquarter of the company in Dublin, Ireland. Apart from that, it is a subsidiary-type company that gives online security services to small and big businesses all across the world. It also has US operations in San Diego and San Mateo, and it has other offices located in Japan, the United Kingdom, Austria, and Australia.

History 

After unveiling its first product in 1997 with the help of various venture capital firms such as Accel Partners, Mayfield, and Crossover Ventures, the company started working on its next project. And in 1992, they launched their second product named Webroot Spy Sweeper, which works as a spyware blocker. However, along with the Spy Sweeper, they also introduced antivirus protection support. 

In 2007, the company released the Antispyware with Webroot Antivirus. And added with the firewall protection feature Desktop Firewall was also launched. By 2004, the company was stepping into the enterprise market by launching the Webroot Spy Sweeper Enterprise. It worked towards combining the Spy Sweeper with the technology that enabled the IT administrators to install anti-spyware protection all over the network. 

Till the year 2008, the company Webroot Internet Security Essentials in the United States. And that was its first Consumer Security Suite. Plus, in 2009, the international launch of the suite was done. After that, in the following year, 2010, the company disclosed its plans to open its first international headquarter in Dublin, Ireland. Additionally, in the same year, antivirus and antispyware protection, online back-up, protection against identity theft, credit card monitoring, and firewall capabilities were launched along with the Webroot Internet Security Complete 2011. Plus, to provide Webroot's enterprise security-as-a-service (SaaS) products to businesses, Webroot opened its one regional center in Leidschendam, Netherlands. 

Furthermore, Webroot’s first-ever mobile security came in 2011 for Android mobiles and tablets. It was available in both the free and premium versions. The app's aim was to save the device from other apps, keeping it safe from danger when the device gets lost and viruses from web browsing. Additionally, till the end of the same year, they started making the apps for iOS devices, too, with the launch of the SecureAnywhere product. 

In 2014 BrightCloud Security Services was introduced as the company’s new portfolio of services to businesses of enterprise class. Also, it announced the integration of the SIEMs and Next-Generation Firewalls. 

Additionally, in 2019, the former CEO of Lancopre, Mike Potts, took the position of the new CEO of the company. Further, in the same year, with a purchase price of 618.5 US million dollars, Carbonite closed its acquisition of Webroot. However, in the same year, OpenText acquired Carbonite. As of now, the current serving CEO of Webroot is Vikas Ravish.
