Jan Hruska and Peter Lammer established Sophos Group plc. in 1985. It is a British-based company, and the headquarter of the company is situated in Abingdon, England. This company is one of the most recognized organizations which offers complete security services to a large number of computer devices all over the globe. 

Additionally, the chairman of the company is Peter Gyenes, and the CEO is Kris Hagerman. As of 2019, the company's total revenue was $710.6 million, and the operating income of the company was $109 million. Apart from that, from 2003 to 2006, it served ActiveState as a parent company. ActiveState was a developer of the programming tools for dynamic programming languages. 

History

In 1985, Jan Hruska and Peter Lammer started working on their first antivirus and encryption products after founding Sophos. In the initial year of its establishment, the company used to create and sell a variety of security technology in the United Kingdom. Additionally, it is also used to provide encryption tools for most users. However, by the end of the 1990s, the company focused on the development and sale of antivirus technology. Plus, it also aimed to increase the reach of its services across the border. 

Furthermore, in 2013, Sohos acquired a North American software company that was called ActiveState. ActiveState is used to develop various anti-spam software. At that specific period, a large number of viruses were spreading through emails, which gave Sophos an opportunity to develop a combined solution of antivirus and anti-spam solutions. 

Peter Gyenes and Steve Munford were named Chairman and CEO of the company, respectively. Apart from that, the founders of the company, Peter Lammer and Jan Hruska, served the company as members of the board of directors. When the year 2010 came, the majority of the interest of the company was gone to Apex. Additionally, in the same year, former Group CFO of Micro Focus International, Nick Bray, was named the CFO of the company. 

Moreover, in 2012, Kris Hagerman was named the CEO of Sophos as well as the company’s board. He was the former CEO of the Corel Corporation. And the former CEO of the company was given the position of the board's non-executive chairman. Later in 2014, it announced it was going to acquire Cyberoam Technologies, which was a provider of network security products. Additionally, the company disclosed its plans to raise $ 100 million on the London Stock Exchange in 2015. 

In 2019, a US-based private equity firm Thoma Bravo offered to acquire Sophos at $7.40 for each share. And the company disclosed that the deal amount was calculated to be near about $3.9 billion. So, in March 2020, the company declared the completion of the acquisition.
